National Animal Genetic Bank (NAGB)

NAGB is focused on collecting available genomic samples from wild fauna of the Czech Republic and also data on other existing genomic samples, e.g. from finished research projects or samples stored in museums, which can come from all over the world. NAGB ensures their long-term quality preservation and provides data to a widely accessible database of these samples to make them available for (further) research and thereby aims to contribute also to effective species conservation.

Mohelský Mill Genetic Bank Facility

Reconstruction of original technical outbuilding at the Mohelský Mill to one of National Animal Genetic Bank sample repositories was a part of Biodiversity Education Centre creation activities. Deep freezers (-80 °C), which enable quality long-term storage of tissue and DNA samples, are placed in the facility and a laboratory for collection of genetic samples from carcasses was built there. Reconstruction works were carried out by the Archatt Monuments Inc. (Archatt Památky spol. s r. o.) from July to October 2015. The Vysočina Region contributed 1.3 mil CZK to a total investment of 2 mil CZK. Currently these spaces are being equipped with small instruments and other necessary equipment. Ceremonial opening of the National Animal Genetic Bank – Mohelský Mill is planned for spring 2016.
