National Animal Genetic Bank (NAGB)
NAGB is focused on collecting available genomic samples from wild fauna of the Czech Republic and also data on other existing genomic samples, e.g. from finished research projects or samples stored in museums, which can come from all over the world. NAGB ensures their long-term quality preservation and provides data to a widely accessible database of these samples to make them available for (further) research and thereby aims to contribute also to effective species conservation.

Study visit to Natural History Museum, University of Oslo, Norway
In connection to BIOM project, study visit to one of the largest wildlife genetic banks, the DNA Bank in Natural History Museum, University of Oslo, Norway was realized on 31 August – 5 September 2015. This institution is a partner of our project financed from EAA Grants 2009-2014 (project No. EHP-CZ02-OV-1-025-2015). Employees of Institute of Vertebrate Biology, the Czech Academy of Sciences (Dr. Petra Hájková, Dr. Ľudovít Ďureje and Mgr. Jana Vrbová Komárková) and Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague (Dr. Michal Vinkler) visited Prof. Jan T. Lifjeld, Prof. Arild Johnsen a Dr. Lars Erik Johannessen in Natural History Museum. The aim of the travel was to obtain experience with establishment and management of genetic banks abroad and specifically, to get acquainted with management system of genetic samples in Natural History Museum and with database system Corema which is presently one of the best working commercial softwares for management of genetic sample databases. Study visit provided valuable information and experience concerning technical aspects of sample preservation, labelling and storage, legal aspects of acquisition, storage and providing of genetic samples (basic documents and agreements) and laid the foundations for the next close cooperation between Natural History Museum in Oslo and institutions in the Czech Republic. Obtained experience and know-how will be fully used at establishing National animal genetic bank in the Czech Republic within the project BIOM.
